At
0900 hours on Friday 27th May
2012, the streets of Tripoli, capital of Libya saw hundreds of thousands of
demonstrators chanting slogans for the ousting of the Muammar Al-Gaddafi's
autocratic regime and the establishment
of a complete democracy. Gaddafi attributed the protests against his
rule to people who were "rats"
and "cockroaches" and claimed that it was a "colonialist
plot" by foreign countries to control oil and "enslave" Libyan
people. He had asserted that he would chase down the protesters and cleanse the country "house by house". After
the statement broadcasted, clashes erupted in every comer of the street between
demonstrators and policemen. Libyan Armed Police were unable to control the
crowd. The demonstrators were pelting stones at the police and breaking streetlight,
vandalizing the public and private properties around the road sides. They were
also burning public vehicles. A public city bus license plate 345-LR-136 carrying 20 passengers including 5 children was
bombed using petrol bomb by the rioters.
Major Ali Omar Ermes was commanding the Al Fatah Street Area with
200 police personnel and Zuwara area was in the command of Major Hassan al-Droui with 250
Police personnel.
At
1205 hours 27th May 2012, Major Hassan al-Droui
ordered his troops to fire at the demonstrators. Police beat up, chased, and fired at the fleeing demonstrators and dispersed the crowd. At 0205 hours, two
people were found dead and several others were severely injured. Many empty
bullets cases were found around vicinity. Major Ali Omar Ermes fired 18 rounds of 5.56mm bullets from his M-16 Rifle. His troops fired forty gas shells and several rubber bullets injuring many people in
the streets and inflicting injuries
to the children and elderly people.
Two Women and a man were killed and more
than 50 got injured. The angry protesters caught the five policemen and beat them severely, tore their uniform and carried
them. The Red Cross members took the injured people to Tripoli Centre Hospital. The government television and radio
announced 5 dead and around 50 injured. On 4th June 2012, an independent Investigation commission was formed
with five independent members in the
chairmanship of chief justice Kamal
Bashir Al-Dahan.
Two
people, one was late 40s, died in the streets and several were injured. On the way to hospital, a man of 20 died. The agitating mass proceeded
towards the police throwing stones, burning tires, chanting slogans, and
blowing trumpets and whistles. The agitators caught hold of five policemen and
took possession of a gas gun and a Glock- 17 pistol from the

Al Ahrar TV stated six dead and more than 200 hundred injured during the
incident. Television reported doctors voicing fears of more deaths. An
independent investigation commission, IIC was established to investigate the
case.
