Extortion Money Demand
On the 12th of August 2014, Block Development
Officer (BOO) Eric Jean-Louis, went to the District Police Station and lodged a
complaint about extortion and mental
torture. On Wednesday, a police patrol, Gulf 23, consisting of 7 trained
officers for controlling mob, miscreants, and extortionists, was mobilized
around the city in search of the extortionists. During the investigation,
police obtained the phone number used by extortionists as 96315864 which was in the name of Brata. Police
arrested him on Friday morning from
Joai Motorbike Workshop.
On Saturday, 15 August 2014, another team
of five police armed with AK 47 rifles from District Police Station arrested
two more black males from One Star Fighting Club at about 21.30 hours. Later,
they were identified as Dahar (22) and
Nongam (21). The males were accused of demanding 60,000 USD each from two
persons: Inspector of local police station, named Michele Stephenson, and a Businesswoman, Amanda, working for Women and Children Mental
Development Organization. The, victim BOO working in a Hill area stated
that he had received a phone call demanding 50,000
USD. The caller identified himself as a
member of the 'Amat Liberation Organization (ALO). Brata confessed his crime and police knew that their central camp was in the Amazing Twin Peaks at GR 924-753 in Joai.
The miscreants were often found to be associated with Arbi People's
Liberation Army (APLA). The people got frightened to report to the police
against those miscreants. All arrested extortionists were working under those
miscreants.
On Monday, 17 August 2014, the District
CID was able to track one black male named Luck
Mervil from the Michael Jackson Disco Club with the help of his girlfriend, Garcella. During
interrogation, he revealed that ALO
was planning to plant a powerful
Improvised Explosive Device ([ED) to
cause attrition (slow destruction) on
the Gahat and Kakaj railway track on the eve of Independence Day on 20 of August 2014. CID immediately informed
this to District Police Station (DPS).
From the arrested male, police
found a list of names of the people
and the amount they had to give extortion money and the time to
plant IED. One platoon of Army along with Special Police Force launched an
operation in the village Raba in
Kakaj and Gahaj in the evening
of August 18, 2014. The joint
operation started mission to
destroy their organization and arrest the lead persons. All arrested males
were taken to District Police
Station and put them into the custody
for further investigation.
At 16.00 hours, on 18 August
2014, Special Police Force and one platoon
of Army started the joint
operation called 'Operation Finished Terrorist' targeting
to arrest the leader of the miscreants and destroy their organization. The miscreant leader was Mustafa
Hadi, 52 years old, who had escaped
from the central jail IO years
before with other 5 criminals. Brata, Dahar, Nongam and Luck Mervil were
responsible for extortion
money. Those four extortionists threatened the top-level people for the extortion money, and they were belonged
to Amat Liberation Organization which was banned by
government. During the operation. the terrorists opened fire
and the security forces retaliated with controlled fire. The cross firing
vvent for 30 minutes. The leader sustained two bullets on the right arm,
and he was arrested along with five other miscreants. IO
terrorists were found dead at the scene. The operation seized 15 automatic
rifles. two hand grenades. 7 kg of explosive devices
and some wire, and
200 bullets as well. In the cross firing. two police and one army got injured.
The further investigation was continuing.
